Curriculum & Activities
Alphabet Hopscotch
Letter Recognition
Have students stand at the beginning of the hopscotch grid. Call out a letter, and students must hop to that specific letter. This activity reinforces letter recognition skills as students visually identify and physically interact with each letter.
Spelling Challenges
Divide the class into teams. One student from each team hops along the hopscotch grid, spelling a word letter by letter as they move. The rest of the team members must write down the word. The team with the correct spelling wins a point. This activity promotes spelling skills, teamwork, and friendly competition.
Phonics Drill
Assign each square in the hopscotch grid a phonetic sound or a word that starts with a particular sound. As students hop along the grid, they must say the sound or word associated with each square they land on. This exercise strengthens phonics skills and reinforces letter-sound correspondence.
Word Building
Assign a specific word or a set of letters to each student. Students take turns hopping on the appropriate squares to spell their assigned word. This activity encourages word formation and boosts vocabulary development.
