Curriculum & Math Activities
Number Line 1-30
Hopscotch Math
Create a modified version of hopscotch on the number line, where students have to hop to different numbers and perform math operations. For example, they can hop to number 5, add 3, and then hop to the result.
Number Line Race
Divide students into teams and give each team a starting number. Call out math problems (e.g., addition, subtraction, or multiplication) and the teams must race to the correct answer on the number line. The first team to reach the correct answer earns a point.
Number Line Relay
Set up cones or markers at different intervals on the number line. Divide students into teams and have them take turns running to a given number, solving a math problem related to that number, and running back to tag the next team member. The team with the most correct answers and fastest times wins.
Target Practice
Assign different math operations (e.g., addition, subtraction, or multiplication) to different sections of the number line. Provide students with bean bags or soft balls and have them toss them onto the number line to hit the correct answer. They earn points based on the difficulty of the operation and the accuracy of their aim.
Musical Math
Play some upbeat music and have students walk or hop on the number line. When the music stops, call out a math problem, and students must solve it by standing on the correct answer on the number line. This activity combines movement and mental math skills.
Number Line Relay Race
Set up two or more number lines parallel to each other. Divide students into teams and provide them with a set of math problem cards. The first student in each team solves a problem and runs to place the card on the correct answer on the number line. The next student repeats the process. The team that finishes correctly and fastest wins the race.
